#1 God’s people, the Israelites, had been freed from slavery in Egypt. God had commanded them to pack their things and begin their journey. Where were they travelling too?

Yes, God had promised His people that He would give them their own country where they could live in peace and freedom. It was the land of Canaan and is referred to as the ‘Promised Land’ in the Bible.

next

#2 The Promised Land was far away and the people had to walk across a wilderness to get there there. How did they know which way to go?

Yes, God guided the people throughout their journey through the wilderness. The Bible tells us that God will guide us through our lives too if we trust in Him.

next

#3 What did God use to guide the people on their journey to the Promised Land?

God performed a mighty miracle. He sent a huge pillar of cloud in the sky at night and a huge pillar of fire at night. The pillars of cloud and fire would always be visible and showed the people exactly where to go. God will always take care of His people.

next

#4 You may have heard the expression “Life is a journey”. The Bible shows us that the Israelites journey through the wilderness is a picture of our life. We can know God’s guidance in our life too if we trust in Him. We don’t see a pillar of cloud or fire though! How can God guide us?

Yes, God guides us with the Bible. In the Bible we are told about how we can have our sins forgiven and how we can know God as our Friend and Saviour. The Bible shows us how to live our lives in a way that pleases God which is also the way which leads to true joy and peace for ourselves. The Bible shows us how we can go to Heaven to be with God when we die.

next

#5 If the Israelites had trusted themselves and refused to listen to the Lord God, they would have become extremely lost. What will happen to us if we trust ourselves and refuse to listen to God in our own lives?

Refusing to listen to God will lead to all sorts of sad situations in our lives. We will not know the joy of having our sins forgiven and of knowing that we will be taken to heaven one day.

next

#6 By ourselves our hearts are full of sin and we have broken God’s commandments many times. The Lord God tells us that sin cannot enter heaven. Yet God has also promised in the Bible that all those who repent and believe will be saved and taken to heaven. How is this possible?

Yes, Jesus has taken the punishment that we deserve upon Himself. All our sins can be taken away and when God looks at us He sees the perfect life of Jesus. What wonderful love!

next

#7 The Bible tells us that we must believe and trust that Jesus died for us and also that we must repent. What does it mean to repent?

To repent means to say sorry and truly mean it. Repentance also means that we don’t want to carry on our sinful ways anymore and we ask God to help us with this.

next

#8 How can we know that our sins will definitely be forgiven if we truly repent and believe?

God has never broken a promise. Just as he guided the Israelites many thousands of years ago to their Promised Land, so He will forgive our sins and guide us all through our lives until we die and go to heaven to be with Him forever.

#1 Today’s lesson was all about the final plague that the Lord God sent to Egypt. How many plagues were there in total?

Yes, there were 10 plagues in total. God’s people were being held as slaves in the land of Egypt. The Lord God sent Moses to speak to Pharaoh and ask him to let God’s people go free, but Pharaoh refused to listen and mocked the Lord. The Lord sent plagues to show Pharaoh how powerful He was and that He was the true God of heaven and earth. But even though he saw many mighty acts Pharaoh refused to believe and hardened his heart.

next

#2 God told His people that he would send one last plague and that after this Pharaoh would let the people go? What was this plague?

Yes, the angel of death went through the land of Egypt that night and many eldest sons across the land were killed. How sad that Pharaoh’s stubborn heart of unbelief led to such severe punishments been given.

next

#3 God provided a way for the eldest sons to be saved when the angel of death visited. He told the people to choose a lamb from their flocks and kill it, cook it and eat it. He also told them to do something special with the lamb’s blood. What sort of lamb was to be used?

Yes, the lamb chosen was to be a healthy, perfect, spotless lamb. This is because the lamb is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ who was also perfect.

next

#4 What special thing did God command the people to do with the lamb’s blood?

They were to paint the lamb’s blood on the door frames of their house as a sign that they trusted in God and had obeyed His command.

next

#5 What happened to the eldest son in the houses of the Israelites who had obeyed God and painted the lamb’s blood on their door frames?

They were saved and did not die. God never breaks His promises and if we trust in Him then He will surely save us from our sins just as He saved the Israelite sons.

next

#6 The Bible tells us that the Passover lamb was a picture of The Lord Jesus Christ. We have already thought about how the spotless lamb was a picture of how the Lord Jesus Christ was perfect and sinless. How else is the Passover lamb a picture of Jesus?

Yes, these are all ways in which the Passover lamb is a picture of how the Lord Jesus Christ would come to earth many years later to die on the cross. He was punished for the sins of all those who trust in Him so that they can go free.

next

#7 Why did Jesus come and die on the cross?

Yes, What a wonderful Saviour He is. He loves us so much even though we don’t love Him as we ought.

Well done!

Not your best effort.

next

#1 We have learnt today about how Almighty God sent plagues upon Pharaoh and the Egyptian people. What is a plague?

A plague is something which causes great suffering and distress to those it affects.

next

#2 Which one of the following was not a plague which God sent to Pharaoh?

God did not destroy Pharaoh’s palace or take his gold. He sent him much worse plagues which not only affected Pharaoh, but also the Egyptian people.

next

#3 Why did God send the plagues to Pharaoh?

Pharaoh constantly refused to release the Israelite slaves (Gods people), so God sent him plague after plague to punish him for his cruelty and hardness of heart. This also demonstrated God’s great power to all those who witnessed the plagues and to us when we read of the plagues in the Bible.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth” Exodus Ch. 9 vs. 13 & 14

next

#4 What was Pharaohs reaction to the sending of the plagues?

Pharaoh refused to obey God’s commands/warnings to release His people (Israelite slaves). He hardened his heart towards God and the more God punished him the harder his heart became. He was a foolish and cruel man.

next

#5 Why can we be like Pharaoh when we hear about God at Sunday school?

All of the answers are true. We all, by our sinful natures, want nothing to do with Almighty God. We live our lives as we want to and seek to please ourselves rather than Him.

“But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you..” 1 Samuel Ch. 12 V.15

next

#6 If we continue to harden our hearts to Gods word and commandments all of our lives, what will happen to us when we die?

God will send us to Hell forever for refusing to take notice of His commands to repent of our sins. When you attend Sunday school or watch the lessons on the computer, it is very important that you listen carefully to what the teachers tell you. They teach you about the only way to get your sins forgiven and to go to Heaven, by believing that Jesus Christ died for you and repenting of your sinful life.

next

#7 Coronavirus (Covid-19) is a plague sent by God as a judgement upon the world. As ever, God is demonstrating his awesome power and His anger with sin and unbelief. What should we do?

We must realise that God is angry with us and that our sin must be punished. When we realise that we are sinners, we must humbly admit this to Almighty God, ask Him to forgive us and change the way we live our lives to please him (repent).

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin…”

2 Chronicles Ch. 7 v.14

Well done!

Oh dear – not a pleasant surprise after a lesson of surprises! You’d better have another go 😊

next

#1 Have you watched this week’s lesson?

Surely we don’t need to check do we?!

next

#2 Moses had run away from Egypt and his life in Pharaoh’s palace. What did Moses do for the next 40 years?

Moses settled into a very quiet and humble life looking after his father-in-law’s sheep.

next

#3 One day when Moses was in the desert looking after the sheep, he saw an amazing sight. What was it?

He got the first surprise of the day when he saw the bush on fire, but it wasn’t turning black or getting burned up.

next

#4 When Moses stopped to go and investigate the burning bush, he heard a voice calling his name. Whose voice was it?

This was the second great surprise of the day: to hear the voice of God calling his name!

next

#5 What does the fact that God could talk to Moses from the burning bush tell us?

Although we can’t see God or hear His voice as Moses did, He is still a living God. He sees everything we do and knows our every thought, and He speaks through His word, the Bible.

next

#6 When Moses approached the burning bush, God stopped him and told him to take off his shoes. Why?

The Bible helps us to understand how holy God is. The Bible helps our consciences to work and understand that we are all sinful, and we need to be humble and repent of our sins.

next

#7 What did God tell Moses?

God loves His people and doesn’t want them to suffer. He set out a plan to stop the suffering of the Israelites and lead them to the Promised Land.

next

#8 What does God’s plan for the Israelites tells us about our own lives?

We can never earn our own freedom from sin or make ourselves good enough for Heaven, but God has always had a plan to save us, by sending the Lord Jesus to take our punishment.

next

#9 Moses doubted that anyone would listen to him or follow him, because he didn’t know what to say and nobody would believe God had spoken to him. Why was Moses wrong?

God has power over everything. He created everything, including us. We can ask God to help us when we pray to Him and he can help us to have His power over sins in our lives.

#1 Have you watched the lesson?

Do we really need to ask after all these weeks?!

next

#2 Moses was an Israelite (one of God’s people) but after being found by an Egyptian princess as a baby he grew up in the Pharaoh’s palace. What sort of life would Moses have had living there?

Moses was raised as a prince of Egypt and as such enjoyed all that comes with being royalty.

next

#3 The rest of the Israelites (God’s people) were kept as slaves in Egypt. What would their lives have been like? (The picture is a big clue!)

The people of Israel were treated cruelly and their lives were difficult with little money and back-breaking work. So Moses’ life and the people’s lives were as different as they could possibly be.

next

#4 Moses had to make a decision about how he would live the rest of his life. What decision did he make?

Moses knew that he could not carry on living as an Egyptian because they had no time for God. He loved God and knew that the right place for him was with God’s people.

next

#5 Why did Moses decide to join with God’s people rather than stay in the palace?

The same is true for us today. There is nothing in this world – even all its riches, fame and power – that can compare with God’s love.

next

#6 Moses saw an Egyptian hurting one of God’s people and whilst trying to defend them Moses ended up killing the Egyptian man. When the Pharaoh found out he tried to find Moses and have him killed but Moses managed to escape. Where did Moses go?

Moses ran away and worked as a shepherd where Pharaoh would not find him. He hid there for 40 years!

next

#7 Complete this Bible verse (see Matthew chapter 6 verses ): “Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust and thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves……..”

next

#8 Like Moses, we have a choice to make in our lives. What is the most important choice for us?

Whether we believe in the Lord Jesus and repent of our sins or not is not just the most important choice for our lives, but it is the decision that will decide where we spend eternity after we leave this world. You must choose the Lord today, without waiting another week or even another night.

Remember our chorus:

Choose you this day Whom you will serve,
Choose you this day Whom you will serve;
But as for me, as for me, as for me, as for me,
I will serve the Lord.

Well done!

You could definitely have done better!

next

#1 Have you seen this week’s lesson?

Just checking!

next

#2 Over the past weeks we have been learning about someone in a series of lessons. Who have we been learning about?

We have been learning about the Lord Jesus Christ and what He said about Himself.

“And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John ch 1 vs 14

next

#3 We can drink water which quenches our thirst for a little while, but Jesus can give us ‘living water’ so that we will never thirst again. What is this ‘living water’ that only Jesus Christ can give?

He is! Everlasting life given to us when Jesus saves us.  When sinners trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and repent of their sinful lives, He forgives all of their sins and ‘saves’ them from the power of sin and the Devil. He also gives them the Holy Spirit and promises them everlasting life.

“ But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life”  John ch 4 vs 14

next

#4 Jesus fed many people with just five loaves of bread and two fishes. How many people did the Lord Jesus feed with that food?

Jesus fed 5000 men, without counting the women and children who were with them. This is one of the amazing miracles of Jesus Christ.

“So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were sat down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost” John ch 6 vs 10 – 12

next

#5 The Bible tells us that in one sense we are all blind (spiritually blind). This means that, if we are not Christians and do not have the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Saviour ……

All these are true, and more besides. If we do not know the Lord Jesus Christ for ourselves, we are blind to all the important things in life.

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world (Satan) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them” 2 Corinthians ch 4 vs 3-4

next

#6 Jesus described Himself as the Good Shepherd. What type of people were shepherds?

Shepherds spent most of their time with their flocks in all weathers and seasons, day and night. There were thieves, wild animals and many other dangers to contend with while they kept their sheep safe, so they were most definitely tough and brave people.

“Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture” Psalm 100 vs 3

next

#7 Jesus Christ healed Lazarus from the dead and brought him physically back to life. What has Jesus Christ done which is even more amazing and glorious than this?

Jesus Christ lived a perfect, sinless life and then willingly died on the cross in unimaginable pain and suffering so that our sins could be forgiven. He was also resurrected (brought back to life), so that if by His grace (undeserved love) we are enabled to repent and believe on Him, we will have everlasting life with Him in Heaven. What can be more amazing and glorious than this!

Jesus said “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” John ch 3 vs 3

(Once spiritually dead, but ‘born again’ with the Holy Spirit and a new life in Christ)

next

#8 Here’s an easy one…Who in the Bible described themselves as “the Way, the Truth and the Life”?

The Lord Jesus Christ said in the bible: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” John ch 14 vs 6

next

#9 If we are a true Christian, our lives will show ‘fruit’. These fruits include:

A true Christian will be changed by God’s love and bear fruit. They will show love, joy, goodness and much more besides. True Christians do still sin, but they will be very sad when they do these things that are wrong and offend the God they love.

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians ch 5 vs 22-23

next

#10 John the Baptist described the Lord Jesus is as the ‘Lamb of God’. What did John say that Jesus would take away?

John the Baptist told the gathered crowds that Jesus would take away the sins of the world, meaning that people from every country around the globe would believe and repent and have their sins taken away.

“ The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” John ch 1 vs 29

next

#11 We have learnt about Jesus’ character through His ‘I am’ sayings and His miracles. What do these miracles teach us about God’s character?

The following Bible verses show the answers:

“Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people”

Psalm 77 vs 14

“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible”

Matthew ch 19 vs 26

“Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things”

Psalm 72 vs 18
