The test was designed to show whether the scribe was really sincere in needing help from the Lord Jesus. If he was not sincere, he would be turned away by the Lord Jesus.

We have nothing to give to Jesus, we can only repent of our sins and ask for His forgiveness. Other people we have learned about in this series, like the centurion and the street woman were very humble, understanding how unworthy they were.

#4 The second potential recruit didn’t volunteer but was called by the Lord Jesus. How did the man respond?

By saying he had to bury his father, it didn’t mean his father had died. It meant that he wanted to carry on his family life and get his inheritance from his father in the future. He was not willing to lose his inheritance to follow Jesus.

#5 We may have heard from our Sunday School teachers about how the Lord Jesus can save us. When is the best time to follow Jesus?

Don’t delay or you may leave it too late! Nothing is more important than seeking and finding the Lord.

#6 If we hear the Lord Jesus calling us, perhaps through Sunday School lessons and from reading the Bible, knowing our consciences are troubled by the bad things we have done in the past, what should we do?

If we truly want to follow Jesus, we must genuinely repent and turn away from sins and believe that the Lord Jesus will save us and take us to heaven. Some of the other answers are useful, but repentance and belief have to come first.
