#1 The people of Israel were led into the wilderness (desert) by Almighty God. How many Israelite people were there?

2 million Israelite people were led into the wilderness. That was a huge number of people, comparable to the entire population of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset put together. They all had to be provided with food to eat and water to drink.

next

#2 The people of Israel needed to drink plenty of water in the hot desert, but the only water they first found tasted horribly bitter and so they complained to Moses to help them. How did Moses make the bitter water sweet to drink?

Moses cried out to the Lord God in prayer for help and the Lord graciously provided Moses with instructions on how to make the water sweet by putting a certain tree into the lake of water. Almighty God will always answer the cries/prayers of His people (Christians).

“ The righteous (Christians) cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles”

Psalm 34 Verse 17

next

#3 The Israelites quickly ran out of food in the desert, but God provided food from Heaven (Manna) for His people. God only allowed the Israelites to gather just enough food each day to satisfy their hunger. If they gathered too much it would stink and be full of worms before the next day and it could not be eaten. Why did God do this?

God is very kind to His people (Christians) and provides them with all they need every day. He does not give Christians too much as this would spoil them and make them greedy, lazy and unthankful. He gives them sufficient grace every day, but we must trust in Him and pray to him.

next

#4 God commanded the Israelites not to collect food on the Lords Day (Sunday). How then did the people have enough food to eat on the Lords Day?

God allowed the people to gather twice as much food on the Saturday so that it could be eaten on the next day (Sunday). God also prevented the food (manna) from stinking and being infested with worms on the Sunday as this was a special day (Lords Day).

next

#5 What should we all do on Sunday (Lords Day)?

Sunday is the Lords Day (sabbath day) and we should all stop doing unnecessary work and spend the whole day worshipping and thanking Almighty God for his kindness to us every day of our lives. God actually commands all people to “remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” Exodus Ch.20 v.8. This is the eighth of the ten commandments you may have learnt in Sunday School.

“But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work…For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it”

Exodus Ch.20 Vs. 10,11

#6 Why did the Israelite people complain about God and want to go back to Egypt?

They did not trust that God would provide them with all that they needed. Because of this distrust, they felt uncomfortable and scared in the hot desert and thought they would die. They wanted to go back to Egypt where they knew they would at least have some food and drink, even though the Egyptian people were very cruel to them. If only they had trusted in a kind Lord God to provide them with all they needed! Then they would not have been scared, angry or complaining, but would have instead been happy, calm and contented.

next

#7 How does God feel when we murmur or complain against Him when things go wrong in our lives?

God gets very angry with us when we complain against Him as He is very kind and provides us all with many good things in our lives. Unfortunately we sin against God every day and we deserve nothing from Him but His just punishment for our sins. However, God commands us all to repent of our sins and turn to Him and trust in Him. If He forgives us our sins and we become a Christian, we then receive many other blessings from Him such as the promise of Heaven when we die, peace in our hearts, a new life of living for Him and telling other people of the glorious gift of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.

You can always have another try.

#1 God’s people, the Israelites, had been freed from slavery in Egypt. God had commanded them to pack their things and begin their journey. Where were they travelling too?

Yes, God had promised His people that He would give them their own country where they could live in peace and freedom. It was the land of Canaan and is referred to as the ‘Promised Land’ in the Bible.

next

#2 The Promised Land was far away and the people had to walk across a wilderness to get there there. How did they know which way to go?

Yes, God guided the people throughout their journey through the wilderness. The Bible tells us that God will guide us through our lives too if we trust in Him.

next

#3 What did God use to guide the people on their journey to the Promised Land?

God performed a mighty miracle. He sent a huge pillar of cloud in the sky at night and a huge pillar of fire at night. The pillars of cloud and fire would always be visible and showed the people exactly where to go. God will always take care of His people.

next

#4 You may have heard the expression “Life is a journey”. The Bible shows us that the Israelites journey through the wilderness is a picture of our life. We can know God’s guidance in our life too if we trust in Him. We don’t see a pillar of cloud or fire though! How can God guide us?

Yes, God guides us with the Bible. In the Bible we are told about how we can have our sins forgiven and how we can know God as our Friend and Saviour. The Bible shows us how to live our lives in a way that pleases God which is also the way which leads to true joy and peace for ourselves. The Bible shows us how we can go to Heaven to be with God when we die.

next

#5 If the Israelites had trusted themselves and refused to listen to the Lord God, they would have become extremely lost. What will happen to us if we trust ourselves and refuse to listen to God in our own lives?

Refusing to listen to God will lead to all sorts of sad situations in our lives. We will not know the joy of having our sins forgiven and of knowing that we will be taken to heaven one day.

next

#6 By ourselves our hearts are full of sin and we have broken God’s commandments many times. The Lord God tells us that sin cannot enter heaven. Yet God has also promised in the Bible that all those who repent and believe will be saved and taken to heaven. How is this possible?

Yes, Jesus has taken the punishment that we deserve upon Himself. All our sins can be taken away and when God looks at us He sees the perfect life of Jesus. What wonderful love!

next

#7 The Bible tells us that we must believe and trust that Jesus died for us and also that we must repent. What does it mean to repent?

To repent means to say sorry and truly mean it. Repentance also means that we don’t want to carry on our sinful ways anymore and we ask God to help us with this.

next

#8 How can we know that our sins will definitely be forgiven if we truly repent and believe?

God has never broken a promise. Just as he guided the Israelites many thousands of years ago to their Promised Land, so He will forgive our sins and guide us all through our lives until we die and go to heaven to be with Him forever.

#1 Today’s lesson was all about the final plague that the Lord God sent to Egypt. How many plagues were there in total?

Yes, there were 10 plagues in total. God’s people were being held as slaves in the land of Egypt. The Lord God sent Moses to speak to Pharaoh and ask him to let God’s people go free, but Pharaoh refused to listen and mocked the Lord. The Lord sent plagues to show Pharaoh how powerful He was and that He was the true God of heaven and earth. But even though he saw many mighty acts Pharaoh refused to believe and hardened his heart.

next

#2 God told His people that he would send one last plague and that after this Pharaoh would let the people go? What was this plague?

Yes, the angel of death went through the land of Egypt that night and many eldest sons across the land were killed. How sad that Pharaoh’s stubborn heart of unbelief led to such severe punishments been given.

next

#3 God provided a way for the eldest sons to be saved when the angel of death visited. He told the people to choose a lamb from their flocks and kill it, cook it and eat it. He also told them to do something special with the lamb’s blood. What sort of lamb was to be used?

Yes, the lamb chosen was to be a healthy, perfect, spotless lamb. This is because the lamb is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ who was also perfect.

next

#4 What special thing did God command the people to do with the lamb’s blood?

They were to paint the lamb’s blood on the door frames of their house as a sign that they trusted in God and had obeyed His command.

next

#5 What happened to the eldest son in the houses of the Israelites who had obeyed God and painted the lamb’s blood on their door frames?

They were saved and did not die. God never breaks His promises and if we trust in Him then He will surely save us from our sins just as He saved the Israelite sons.

next

#6 The Bible tells us that the Passover lamb was a picture of The Lord Jesus Christ. We have already thought about how the spotless lamb was a picture of how the Lord Jesus Christ was perfect and sinless. How else is the Passover lamb a picture of Jesus?

Yes, these are all ways in which the Passover lamb is a picture of how the Lord Jesus Christ would come to earth many years later to die on the cross. He was punished for the sins of all those who trust in Him so that they can go free.

next

#7 Why did Jesus come and die on the cross?

Yes, What a wonderful Saviour He is. He loves us so much even though we don’t love Him as we ought.

Well done!

Not your best effort.

next

#1 We have learnt today about how Almighty God sent plagues upon Pharaoh and the Egyptian people. What is a plague?

A plague is something which causes great suffering and distress to those it affects.

next

#2 Which one of the following was not a plague which God sent to Pharaoh?

God did not destroy Pharaoh’s palace or take his gold. He sent him much worse plagues which not only affected Pharaoh, but also the Egyptian people.

next

#3 Why did God send the plagues to Pharaoh?

Pharaoh constantly refused to release the Israelite slaves (Gods people), so God sent him plague after plague to punish him for his cruelty and hardness of heart. This also demonstrated God’s great power to all those who witnessed the plagues and to us when we read of the plagues in the Bible.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth” Exodus Ch. 9 vs. 13 & 14

next

#4 What was Pharaohs reaction to the sending of the plagues?

Pharaoh refused to obey God’s commands/warnings to release His people (Israelite slaves). He hardened his heart towards God and the more God punished him the harder his heart became. He was a foolish and cruel man.

next

#5 Why can we be like Pharaoh when we hear about God at Sunday school?

All of the answers are true. We all, by our sinful natures, want nothing to do with Almighty God. We live our lives as we want to and seek to please ourselves rather than Him.

“But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you..” 1 Samuel Ch. 12 V.15

next

#6 If we continue to harden our hearts to Gods word and commandments all of our lives, what will happen to us when we die?

God will send us to Hell forever for refusing to take notice of His commands to repent of our sins. When you attend Sunday school or watch the lessons on the computer, it is very important that you listen carefully to what the teachers tell you. They teach you about the only way to get your sins forgiven and to go to Heaven, by believing that Jesus Christ died for you and repenting of your sinful life.

next

#7 Coronavirus (Covid-19) is a plague sent by God as a judgement upon the world. As ever, God is demonstrating his awesome power and His anger with sin and unbelief. What should we do?

We must realise that God is angry with us and that our sin must be punished. When we realise that we are sinners, we must humbly admit this to Almighty God, ask Him to forgive us and change the way we live our lives to please him (repent).

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin…”

2 Chronicles Ch. 7 v.14

next

#8 Like Moses, we have a choice to make in our lives. What is the most important choice for us?

Whether we believe in the Lord Jesus and repent of our sins or not is not just the most important choice for our lives, but it is the decision that will decide where we spend eternity after we leave this world. You must choose the Lord today, without waiting another week or even another night.

Remember our chorus:

Choose you this day Whom you will serve,
Choose you this day Whom you will serve;
But as for me, as for me, as for me, as for me,
I will serve the Lord.
