Although it’s revision week, you should definitely still watch the lesson!

Of course it’s Genesis! God used Moses to write the book of Genesis around 4000 years ago.

Abraham was a man of faith and knew that God would keep His promises and protect him and provide for him wherever he was.

Abraham was prepared to do what God commanded and trusted that God had a plan even though he didn’t know what it was. When God stopped Abraham and provided a ram for the sacrifice to take Isaac’s place, it gives a picture to us of what the Lord Jesus did on the cross.

Lot’s selfish choice turned out to be disastrous for him and his family. If we turn away from the Lord and go our own way we will find the same thing: that life without God is empty and bitter, hopeless and cruel.

God answered their prayer in a most wonderful way, and He will also answer our prayers if we really mean them.

Because he didn’t care much about his part in God’s plan, Esau was prepared to swap it for a bowl of soup! He is a warning to us not to dismiss God’s love and mercy.

God sent Jacob a dream about a ladder reaching up to Heaven and angels going up and down the ladder. We learnt that the dream is a picture to us of the cross of Jesus which has made it possible for us to reach Heaven and brings God’s love down to earth.

Jacob wrestled all night until the sun started to rise in the morning. We learnt from Jacob that if we really want to have our sins forgiven and have the Lord Jesus save us then we need to keep praying and not let Him go until He has forgiven and saved us.

Jacob loved Joseph more than his other sons because he saw that Joseph loved and trusted God and wanted to do what was right. He even made Joseph a special coat of many different colours. When Joseph had his dreams about the sheaves and the stars he realised that they were from God and didn’t mind what his brothers said about him or thought of him. We learnt that sometimes we worry too much about what other people think and not enough about what God thinks, and that we should ask the Lord to help us to be more like Joseph.

Joseph went through many difficult times in his life, but he remained content and joyful through them all because he knew that God was with him and would help and protect him. He also trusted that God had a special plan just for him and we learnt that if we become a true Christian then the same will be true for us too.

Benjamin was Joseph’s youngest brother and loved very dearly by their father Jacob.

Judah was now very sorry for all the wicked things they had done to Joseph. Now, he was willing to suffer harm himself, so that Benjamin could go home to his father.

Joseph loved his brothers, and when he saw them, he was so full of joy that he could not help weeping.

Joseph was a very kind man. The problem was that the brothers knew that they had done him a great wrong many years ago, and they deserved to be punished.

God sent Joseph to Egypt, in His wonderful plan. The brothers meant to do Joseph harm, but God over-ruled for good.

If we are a Christian, we know that God will look after us throughout our lives. God is in charge, and He will see to it that the even the hard things will turn out to be for our good.

Joseph made sure that they all came to Egypt, and he looked after them all.

Life is sometimes difficult, but a Christian knows that they have the Lord Jesus as their friend, and they have a place in Heaven to be with him forever.

It’s definitely easier to answer the questions if you have!

There were 7 fat cows that were eaten by 7 thin ones. Later, he had another dream about 7 full ears of corn which were eaten by 7 withered ones. When Pharaoh woke up he was very confused and frightened. He knew that the dreams were not ordinary dreams and that they had a meaning.

It was God Who gave Joseph the meaning of Pharaoh’s dreams.

After 7 years of great plenty a famine would come and last for 7 more years.

God has given us the Bible which contains everything we need to know. It tells us how we can be saved from the punishment that we deserve for our sinful lives so that on the Day of Judgement we will be taken by the Lord Jesus to Heaven.

Benjamin had stayed at home with his father Jacob. Joseph wanted to see him as well as test his brothers.

Joseph wanted to know if his brothers had changed since they sold him into slavery and told his father he had been killed. If they treated Benjamin the same way as they treated him, then he would know that they were not really sorry.

Jesus’ love for His children never had a beginning! He has always loved them, even before the world was created. It was this eternal, infinite love that brought Him into the world and led Him to the cross, and it was this love that kept Him suffering on the cross until all of His children’s sins had been dealt with and paid for. What a Saviour!

Jacob loved his son Joseph more than his other sons and this made them jealous of Joseph.

Potiphar was a captain in Pharaoh, the King of Egypt’s army. He was in charge of many soldiers and was a powerful and highly respected man.

Potiphar greatly respected Joseph because Joseph, with the Lord’s help, proved himself to be an honest, hardworking and trustworthy man. Potiphar gave Joseph many important duties, far beyond what slaves would normally do.

Joseph loved God and knew that God was with him through all his difficult times. God loved and looked after Joseph and used all the events in Joseph’s life to glorify Himself.

Potifar’s wife grabbed Joseph’s by his garment but Joseph fled quickly leaving the clothing in the woman’s hand. He fled from the temptation to sin against the God he loved.

Joseph was an honest, hardworking and could be totally trusted. He was an example of how a Christian should be. A Christian should love his neighbour and do good to them.

The butler and baker had somehow offended Pharaoh and he was very angry with them and wanted them punished.

The dreams were given to the butler and baker by Almighty God. Only one of God’s people could be given the knowledge to interpret the dreams. Joseph was shown by God what the dreams meant so that God’s plan could happen.

God always comforts Christians and even when they go through difficult times God is always with them and gives them peace and joy in their hearts.

It’s always a good idea!

At the time the land was called Canaan. In years to come it would be known as Israel, named after Jacob whom God had called Israel, meaning ‘prince with God.

Joseph was the son of Jacob’s old age and the son of his dear wife Rachel. But Joseph was also a boy who loved the Lord, and this was very precious to Jacob too.

Their first plan was to kill him, hide his body and pretend a wild animal had done it. However, Reuben, Joseph’s oldest brother, didn’t want to kill Joseph and persuaded the others to throw him in the pit instead. He planned to rescue Joseph later, but before he could, they saw the merchants passing and Judah had the idea of selling Joseph and making some easy money.

Esau wanted to kill Jacob because he had taken away his birthright by deception.

Jacob thought that Esau was still very angry with him after he had taken his birthright from him many years before and was worried that he might kill him and his family.

Jacob was concerned that if Esau attacked him and his family they would all be killed and none of his family would survive. By splitting into two groups it gave them a better chance of some of them surviving. He placed his closest family members at the back of the group to help protect them.

Jacob thought that by giving Esau lots of gifts this would soften Esau’s heart and make him less angry with him.

Jacob acknowledged before Almighty God that he was an unworthy sinner. He also reminded God that He had promised to make him a great nation and that God always does what He promises. He also pleaded with God to deliver him from his brother’s anger. God answered his prayer.

True prayer is a heartfelt pleading with God, to praise Him and acknowledge that we are unworthy sinners and to bring all our burdens to him and ask him to help us.

Jacob was wrestling with the Lord God who came in the form of an Angel. God did this to Jacob to show that He is all powerful, but also to serve as a reminder to Jacob for the rest of his life how the Lord had blessed him in that prayer for prevailing with Him.

The Lord gave Esau a heart to love his brother Jacob and much to Jacob’s surprise Esau greeted him with much love and joy.
